About Portable Dishwashers
By: Aaron Guhl
For many people, a dishwasher is just something you can't live without once you've had one. But, sometimes space restrictions of a smaller kitchen prevent you from owning one. However, there are solutions out there. In comes the portable dishwasher. Their sizes vary, but most of them are anywhere from 18 to 24 inches. Not only are they more portable and versatile in smaller kitchens, but they are also cheaper than the permanent units with prices anywhere between $200-500.
Most portable dishwashers have wheels attached to the bottom of them. This will allow you to roll them anywhere for storage in times when you don't need them or when hand-washing is just more suitable for the job. Because they are easier to move, they are ideal for those who live in apartment environments without dishwashers and may also be planning on moving from time to time.
Because of their smaller size, portable dishwashers typically lack many of the bells and whistles of the permanent variants, but they still do have many features. Many of them come with several different cycle options including more powerful cycles for pot and pans. Most portable dishwashers have two levels of pull out baskets to place your dishes in and they are typically designed well with space efficiency in mind.
To use these portable dishwashers, you must roll them or keep them near the sink and hook up a hose from the sink to the portable dishwasher. Hooking the hose up to the sink's plumbing is usually very simple to do. Once the dishwasher is hooked up and ready to use, you have to make sure you don't use the sink during the process. Another important factor to keep in mind is to make sure that the pipes aren't clogged. Any type of liquid pipe cleaner should do the trick. To prevent future clogging, be sure to rinse your dishes of any food particles before placing them in the portable dishwasher. As a maintenance tip, if it ever does get clogged up and leaves behind black grime on your dishes, scrub down the inside of the portable dishwasher with vinegar and run the appliance with a glass of vinegar inside.
As a further bonus for portable dishwashers, when counterspace is hard to come by in smaller kitchens, the top of the appliance can act as additional counter space. But, if you don't have the floor space in the kitchen for a portable dishwasher that sits on the floor, then you can opt for a countertop portable dishwasher that can rest on your counter space. While they can't fit as many dishes as the larger portable dishwashers, they clean just as well.
A bonus of having a smaller and simpler portable dishwasher is that they are easier to maintain and are often more reliable. Less repair is needed for them and they can last you quite a long while. With a little care and routine cleaning, your new portable dishwasher will be washing dishes for years to come.
